Every night our brains go through a cycle called the sleep cycle. At the end of the cycle you enter a phase called REM. When you enter REM your heart rate will increase and your eyes will begin moving under your eye lids. This is when dreams occur. Every time you enter REM that night it gets longer and longer. These are the stages of sleep:
- 1. As you start to drift off, your eye movements and brain slow down. you can still be woken up easily but your mucles begin to loosen and relax.
- 2. During the second stage, your eye movements stop and your bodys metabolism continues to slow down.
- 3. After about 45 minutes, your likley to have relaxed into a deep sleep. Your brain begins to create large waves. When you have reached this state, you become difficult to rouse. If someone does manage to wake you up, you will feel cinfused and groggy.
- 4. When your brain only makes slow waves you have reached your deepest slumber. This is an important phase because it provides good quality rest tat you need to feel recharged and refreshed the next day.
