Here is my question for all of you: What was your favourite part or scene in the play and why?
Today we saw our school production of "Godspell." It was amazing! It was about Jesus' life, like his baptism, the stories he told (like the Mustard Seed), the last supper and his death, but all told in a modern way. The singing, dancing, and acting were done very well, but I think some of the story was a little confusing. The ending was very shocking, but overall, the play was very good. I want to give appreciation to all the students who put on the play, especially the ones in our class. Those students are Rachel, Megan, Melanie, Lauren, Bridget, Dana, Grace, and Josh. They put on a great performance!
Here is my question for all of you: What was your favourite part or scene in the play and why?

Hello Miss Tamasi and class! How was your day? Mine was great!!
Today we learned about the symbols of Christmas ( Evergreens- Christmas trees, wreaths, and garland, candy canes, star, angel, manger, nativity "birth", and pointsettia). I'm going to focus on candy canes! Everybody loves candy canes but they probably don't know the meaning behind them. It is shaped like a cane because Jesus was a shepherd, it's white and red because white stands for new life and red is blood ( from when Jesus gave up his life for us. It is also hard candy, to represent our strong faith in God. Finally, if you turn your candy cane upside down it looks like a "J" for Jesus! Well here's a little question to end this blog entry with: " What's on the top of your tree, a star, angel, or something different?" See you tomorrow!! Hi everyone,
On Thursday, one of our class topics was about the pros and cons regarding mathletics and reflaxmath. Everyone was sharing their ideas and what they thought about reflexmath and mathletics. Some thoughts were that mathletics was fun and it has a bigger variety then reflaxmath. It was nice to see the whole class participating and hearing what they thought. We also answered some questions about our likes and dislike towards mathletics. What do you think about getting mathletics for our class and why? This morning we started with the Acoustic Opera. If you're wondering what an acoustic opera is, it's two guys, playing music wearing fancy tuxes, and giving a positive message. I thought the Acoustic Opera was very fancy, and it was a lot of fun.
It started off with Dave, one of the singers, singing an italian song. Some people thought it was weird, and some people thought it was awesome. But most people thought it was both weird and awesome. Dave and Blake's point was that everyone is weird, but what makes them weird, is what makes them awesome. After that, Dave started talking about his childhood. He said that when he was five years old he would watch this movie everyday. There was this dance in the movie that he really liked so he tried to do it but he didn't know how. So he went to his mother and told his mom "I want to learn how to dance," and then she put him in dancing lessons. In his dancing lessons, he learned a type of dance called "Highland Dancing" and learned how to do the highland fling. He was so excited about what he learned that he wanted to compete in the talent show at school. When he was finished, everyone started to say mean things to him. The point he was trying to make was that we shouldn't judge people especially when they are just being themselves. Dave and Blake were very talented musicians. Dave played the piano, and Blake played the guitar. They had this device which had the capability to keep playing music without touching the strings. Then Blake went to play this box, that sounded like a drum. They ended off the presentation with a Katy Perry song, and got the whole audience to sing with them. Everybody was clapping and when they were done they bowed and we all clapped and said "Bravo!" I think the presentation helped us to learn to not judge people, and that no matter how "weird" they may be, that's what makes them awesome. What was your favourite part of the presentation? From Mateo P.s. By the way....you're AWESOME! p.p.s For more information about the guys behind Acoustic Opera visit THIS LINK Hey fellow classmates!
How are you? I know I'm great! As you might see I'm gone. If you don't know where I am... I'm in New York City. How's the weather? Anyways when I got to NYC I went to time square and then the empire state building! That day I got exciting news. I will write it in my journal. Hopefully I can share it with you! I wish I could of brought you guys :( I really miss school... And YOU! The second day I went to Carlos bakery and tons of stores. The third day was amazing! I saw the Macy's parade and Carly Rae Jepsen, Cody Simpson, the wanted, and more was there. What did you guys do over the week? See you on Monday! Or some of you on Saturday at rehearsal! Bye! Today we did mathematics live as soon as we got to school this morning. Lots of people we're exited about going against their friends! This is how it works: You choose a skill level from 1-10. Then it shows a map of the world searching for people to go against. Once you get people to go against it shows you questions that you have to answer. You only have 1 minute to answer as many questions as possible so you better hurry! The person with the most questions answered wins!
Question: Do you like mathematics? Why or why not? 5x9=45 ... 9x7=63 ... Oh, sorry about that I was just practicing for the MLC. In case you haven't checked our curiculum corner, in Mathematics, MLC stands for Maple Leaf Challenge. Today was our first day of competing on the MLC, which is a part of the Mathletics program. Today was the first of a two day challenge, and it was only for our knowledge part. These are the games/math problems where each correct answer gives you 10 points. *SPOILER ALERT* Tomorrow is our Live Mathletics challenge, where we play anyone across Canada who clicks "go" at the same time you do. Today I got around 2,700 points - that's about 270 correct math questions! My goal for tomorrow is 200 points, since you only get 1 point per correct question on the Live Mathletics section. Now I got to go because I have to keep getting more points. To check out the Maple Leaf Challenge, you can visit THIS LINK. Check out a cool advertisement about Mathletics in the video below, and be sure to check out our pictures and video page for pictures of us competing today. P.s. What is your goal for tomorrow on the MLC live??? Today was a great day! We had lots of fun subjects, but one very awesome one, V.I.P.! Constable Boland has only come in our classroom 2 times and I already know that V.I.P. is going to be so much fun! What about you? Today Constable Boland taught us about peer pressure. Peer pressure is not the same as bullying. However, it can turn into bullying if the peer pressure goes too far. Bullying can be strictly mental, strictly physical, or even both. Whereas peer pressure is only strictly mental. We got to watch some scenarios on peer pressure today. But at the beginning of the video it talked about some things you can remember if you think, or know, that you are being peer pressured. Here they are:
You also need to know what to say if you are being peer pressured. There are lots of things you can say, but here is just one: Alison: Do you want a cigarette? Abby: I don't smoke. Alison: Nothing will happen, no one will find out, don't be a chicken. Abby: I don't smoke. Alison: Is that all you can say? Abby: I don't smoke. This is an example of using the "broken record" technique, and like I said, it is only one example of what you can say to stand up for yourself. There are so many more. If you got a blue sheet from Constable Boland, then you can read them over and maybe use one of the techniques if you are being peer pressured. Constable Boland also gave us another sheet with a list of a peer's "bag of tricks." These are the things a peer will try to do or use to pressure you into doing something. Some of them are:
Now, to end my blog, here is a question for you: If you were in a situation where you were being pressured by a peer, which technique would you use and why would you do that? Please vote in the poll below and leave a comment about why you chose that option. To start off our day today, we did some reading. After that we had a gallery walk of our media posters. Everyone got lots of sticky notes with feedback about their posters. After recess we had the living rosary, which was a nice way to wind down after recess. Next we got to work on our scatter plot problem. During Social Studies we talked about our test from yesterday and did a little group activity. French was next, and then after recess we played some games and said goodbye to Miss Burrows.
It was a good day, but also a sad day because Miss Burrows, our student teacher had to leave. Today was her last day. She taught us many things, like Social Studies, Science and Language. She was a good student teacher and we will miss her so much. This weekend we are trying to make it to the number one spot on Mathletics. What is your personal goal for Mathletics? If you see yourself in the top ten, or if you see our class at number one, please leave a comment. Good luck everyone! Today was very fun because we had our math warm up and then we worked on our math problem which was not so hard to me. How about you? After recess we worked on our posters. Are you done? Then we had lunch and after that we had music - yay! We had a supply teacher for music today. Then we had French and got to act out a paragraph. FUN! Now for the most scary part of the day: the SOCIAL STUDIES TEST! For the social studies test we had one question. Only one question, now who saw that coming? I have a question for everyone about the test. Which two regions did you pick to compare? (Plains, Far North, Atlantic Coast, Pacific Coast, and Woodlands) Please answer in the survey below. Now I would like to give a congrats to Grace who is currently in 19th place in all of Canada for the Mathletics Maple Leaf Challenge, and Logan in 21st place, and Zack in 89th place. Congratulations everyone! |
AuthorsThis blog will be written by the students in 6A. Each day, one student will be responsible for writing a blog entry. Blog entries can be about the day's activities, or a topic of the author's choice. Be sure to check back often for updates to our classroom blog. Archives
