Today we learned about air pressure. There are two kinds of air pressure, low pressure and high pressure. Air travels faster when it is in low pressure than it is when it is in high pressure. We also learned that when air pressure is traveling fast , it won't have enough time to push down or to put pressure on one side, the other side will push on the object the other way. In class, we did two little experiments. In the first experiment, we took a sheet of paper and held it bellow our mouth and blew really hard. The sheet of paper went up. The second one is when we get two sheets of paper and put one on each side of our mouth and also blew. The two sheets of paper came together because the air pressure inside does not have time to push on the paper and the are pressure outside pushed in. I was really surprised at the results. QUESTION: were you surprised about the results?

Today we had Living Rosary. We prayed, as usual, the Rosary but also talked about Brother Andrè. Brother Andrè was devoted(dedicated)to St. Jospeh. Brother Andrè was a door man at a community of Catholics. Because of this everybody who would come would be like "so-and-so is very sick" or something like that and he would tell them to go and pray to St. Jospeh. Later on people would come back to him a say their loved one was healed but Brother Andrè would not praise himself, he would tell them to go and thank St. Jospeh. I personally think Brother Andrè is amazing! What did you like best about Brother Andre? Why? I liked that he wouldn't praise himself instead praise St. Jospeh, I thought this was very humble and I think being humble is one of the many things we must learn to be.
I hope you have a safe night, Melanie :) YES this is my 3rd blog! I feel like I can CELEBRATE right now, but let’s get back to my blog. Today I am going to be telling you about birthdays. As you know my birthday is tomorrow and so far NOBODY has talked about birthdays so that is why I felt like doing this topic.
Anyways birthdays, and gifts for birthdays have probably been going around since Christ existed (remember the three wise men?) Cakes and desserts probably came much later, maybe around the time of party hats and birthday parties. Every year you blow out more candles and you (hopefully) get more presents. Some years are pretty special. For example, the year you turn 12 is pretty special, don't you think? I’m turning 12 tomorrow and I think it's pretty special because a lot of things change when you turn 12. For example, in the eyes of the law, when you turn 12 you can be charged as a youth. At some restaurants, sometimes you can no longer eat from the children's menu. And of course, we get taller and go through more changes. Okay I don’t know for sure what I’m going to do for my birthday, but I do know that I’m going to have a great time opening up presents, eating cake and having a good time at a restaurant. (I’m thinking of Harmony Grand Buffet) By the way if you see me tomorrow hopefully say “Happy Birthday” and that would make my day. Thanks for reading! George (By the way the question is: When you have a birthday what do you do to celebrate it?) Hi everybody, today we began the day with math. In math we were talking about reflections, rotations, and translations. We continued with this talk in art where we had to do a drawing representing translational reflection and another rotation. In other words, we were combining art and math. Some people started calling it "mart." We could only use one type of colour relationship for our artwork. For example, warm, cool, or complimentary colours.
After recess we had a prayer service about love because yesterday was Valentine's Day. We then finished the day getting ready for our student-led conferences. We organized everything we needed for the conference, and then it was time to go home. I have a question for everyone: what was your favorite part of the day? Ash Wednesday is a special day we should all celebrate! It is the day Lent begins, which means it is the beginning of the time when Jesus went to the desert for 40 days and nights without food or water. This is the reason we make a Lenten promise, to follow in His footsteps. A Lenten promise is a promise you make to God. There are two parts to Lenten promise; the sacrifice and the Alms giving. The sacrifice is when you give something up, usually something you spend a lot of time doing or something you enjoy. Then instead of doing or eating or whatever it is you do with your sacrifice, you try to help others or spend time in prayer or mass. That is the alms giving part. It is nice that when you sacrifice something and then you get tempted you stop and kind of think to yourself, “Wait, I’m doing this for Jesus,” and then you are both getting mentally stronger and growing with your connection with God! Now I have a question to ask, what do you usually do for Alms giving? Why? Now I know sacrifices can be personal but if you would like to share it please feel free! I hope everybody has an amazing night, Melanie :) Today in V.I.P we learned about laws. There are by-laws, which are part of the municipal government, federal laws and provincial laws. Constable Boland said ‘’that we all had a good understanding of laws.” Some of the by-laws we talked about were things like, you can’t park your car on the road overnight, and that you can’t be too loud. If you are too noisy you can get a noise complaint and the cops would come to your house. Some of the provincial laws are about driving. You can't speed, drink and drive, or drive and talk on your cell phone. Federal laws include not being able to murder someone.
We also shared some really good stories. Constable Boland said that there are some weird laws in the world. For example, in some places, you can’t throw a horse out of a plane. Then there was another where you can’t flick a booger into the wind. Constable Boland passed around her hand cuffs so we could put them on and at the very end of the presentation, she showed us how she would arrest someone. The cool part was when she got Dana to come up to help her demonstrate. Here is my question to all of you: What was your favourite part of V.I.P was today Hi everyone! Today is parent-teacher conferences. If this is your first time going to a parent-teacher interview, don't worry. In a parent-teacher interview, mothers and fathers would book a time slot with a teacher. It could be any one of your teachers, including your music or french teacher. There is a form to fill out to pick your preferred time slot. The secretary then tries to book a time as close to your preferred time as possible.
On the day of the interview, parents will go in and talk to the teacher. The conferences are only 10 minutes, which doesn't give a lot of time. During that time, they will talk about your report card, and anything that's going on with you in class. This year we also get to put on our own student-led conferences at home, so that we can show our parents our own work. I prefer parent-teacher conferences rather than student-led, because if your parents ask you a question that you don't know the answer to, it would be better to ask the teacher. Which type do you prefer? Parent-Teacher, or Student-Led conferences? Also, do you think they do parent-teacher conferences around the world? This week we are preparing for student led conferences but instead of it being at school ,this year we are doing them at home. A student led conference takes about 20 minutes. In the conference you tell your parents what the daily schedule is like and how class is. A student led conference is when the student shows their parents their work. You show them what you`re really proud of in each subject. You also show them one thing in each subject that you could`ve done better at. You and your parents agree on a goal and agree on some steps you can make to achieve that goal. After the conference is over your parents fill out a sheet about the conference and so do you.
Question: What do you think about student-led conferences? Today was such a fun day because we had Gym. What we are learning about in Gym is gymnastics. Gymnastics is so fun! Right now, we are learning about balances. Balance is a very important skill to master. There are different kinds of balances, such as a 4-point, 3-point, 2-point, or 1-point balance. That just means that 4, 3, 2, or 1 part of your body is supporting all of your body weight. For all of our balances, we have to remember to be sturdy (not wobbly), strong, and have our legs/arms straight, and fingers/toes pointed. You can do balances on your own, or balances with a partner. Some partner balances are really difficult. What is your favourite kind of balance?
On Saturday we celebrated a special day. GROUNDHOG DAY! We celebrate it every year at the beginning of February. Every year the same thing happens but it is still exciting. If the groundhog see's his shadow that means it will be a long winter. If he does not see his shadow it will be an early spring. You would think it would be the other way around. People might think that because if the groundhog see's his shadow that means it is sunny, and if it is sunny that means it is getting warmer/ closer to spring. Some people say it is true, others say it is a superstition. My question for you is: Do you think it is a superstition? And do you think the groundhog really saw his shadow?
