You get put into a group of about 2-4 people. Then you and your group decide on what book you are going to read. The book you choose usually depends on if you've read it before, or if someone said it was a good book, your interest, your curiosity, or the reading level.
When you and your group decide what book you are going to read you have to write a paragraph which is called your "Before Reading" reflection. In this paragraph you talk about why you chose the book and what you think it will be about. This reflection goes in your reader's notebook.
During your reading, you have to put in sticky notes. On the sticky notes, you write down your thoughts, questions, real life connections and any other thoughts. These sticky notes stay inside the book you're reading, and then when you get into your book clubs to discuss the book, you can use your sticky notes to help guide your discussion.
In the middle of your book, you and your book club have to write a mid-book reflection in your reader's notebook. For your mid-book reflection you write about what you think of the book so far: if you like the book, what it's about and any questions or predictions you may have.
At the end of your book, you have to write an end-of-book reflection. For this reflection, you have to write if you liked the book, and any new thoughts you may have. You also have to fill out a reflection sheet that gets handed in and marked. You then need to take out all the sticky notes from your novel and organize them into your reader's notebook.
